An early spring blast of warm weather is forecast to stick around next week, with parts of the country basking in a 20C mini heatwave, according to new predictions. Maps generated by WXCharts show temperatures rising to the high teens and low twenties next weekend, kicking spring off with a very welcome blast of warmth and sunshine. Southern England is expected to primarily benefit from a rise in the mercury, with highs of 20C forecast for London, Sussex and Hampshire on Saturday, April 5.
Double-digit temperatures will also hit the rest of the UK, however, with the coolest conditions in Scotland, hovering around 14C and warmest in the West Midlands around Birmingham, set to rise to 19C. The Met Office defines a heatwave as an extended period of hot weather, relative to the expected conditions for the time of year – with the predicted 20C spell bucking the monthly average for April, which is usually around 13C.

The settled conditions will hold throughout the weekend, according to WXCharts, with areas in the southeast including Essex and Kent still experiencing highs of 19C by 6pm on Sunday, April 6.
The heatwave weather is expected to take hold mid-next week, with the mercury climbing to around 18C by Wednesday before rising to 20C in southern regions from Friday onwards.
Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick said the sunny and mild spell was due to a “blocked weather pattern” due to kick in as “high pressure builds” on March 30 – setting the scene for a dry and springlike week ahead.
She also warned that warm daytime temperatures could still be followed by overnight frosts, however, especially in rural areas.
