Lidl has issued a recall and allergen alert for one of its popular food products due to a labelling error involving milk allergen information. The affected product is Red Hen 4 Tempura Chicken Steaks, which contains milk, an allergen that is not emphasized in bold on the packaging, as required by food safety regulations. Customers with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents may unknowingly consume the product, which could lead to serious allergic reactions.

Lidl has advised its customers not to eat the product if they have a milk allergy or intolerance. Instead, they should return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.

The company has also issued point-of-sale notices in stores and said that it has contacted relevant allergy support organisations to inform their members about the recall.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has also issued an official alert, warning consumers with milk allergies not to consume the product.

The FSA’s risk statement reads: “This product contains milk, making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.”

The recall affects 380g packs of Red Hen 4 Tempura Chicken Steaks with best before dates of December 11, 2026, December 16, 2026, December 22, 2026, December 30, 2026, and January 16, 2027.

The batch with the best-before date of January 16, 2027, has not been distributed in Northern Ireland.

Lidl has confirmed that no other Red Hen products available in Lidl GB stores are affected by this recall.

Lidl said in a statement: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation.”

The Food Standards Agency said: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

The supermarket has also recalled its Harvest Basket Smiley Teddy Bears (750g) due to contamination with mineral oil during production, meaning the product is not suitable for consumption.

The recall affects all stock with best-before dates of May 4, 2027, April 21, and April 11, 2027, and lot codes starting with D0325104, D0425112, D0425113, D0825125, and D0825126.
