More bad weather could be on the way for many areas of Britain – as a new forecast predicts strong winds and brutal rain will batter the nation.

The latest forecasts from WX Charts predict winds of up to 75mph in some areas of the country next weekend, according to the latest live weather predictions for Saturday, December 7.

The strongest winds look set to be across the north and west of the country according to the forecast.

Heavy rain is expected in many areas of the country as well, with the forecast predicting the heaviest showers in Scotland, Wales and North West England.

Up to 82mm of rain is set to accumulate in parts of Scotland, while the whole country is also set for a drenching. Up to 40mm will fall in parts of Wales, and up to 44mm of accumulated precipitation is expected in the north west of England, particularly around the Greater Manchester area.

The latest forecast comes just after Storm Bert battered Britain, causing flooding and power cuts – and tragically a small number of fatalities – in many areas of the country.

Almost 70 flood alerts and almost 40 flood warnings, which mean people should act now, remain in force across the country, including in Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Berkshire and Gloucestershire.

Flooding around Northampton also caused significant disruption to the railway network earlier this week.

The Met Office long-range forecast is also predicting strong wind – although there are currently no official weather warnings in force.

The forecaster for the affecter period reads: “A changeable start to this period, with frontal systems moving east across the UK and bringing spells of rain and strong winds for many areas, though interspersed with quieter interludes.”

It adds: “Overall, rain is most likely across the north and west, while southeast parts may be relatively drier, though not completely dry.”

It also says that there are signs of more settled weather as we move into the second week of December – particularly in the southern half of the British Isles.

Any outbreaks of rain and wind are more likely to be found in northern parts, the Met Office says, while they added there will be a mix of cold and mild days.
