A historic removals company, which has operated for more than 150 years, has entered administration. Administrators have been appointed to take over Johnson’s 1871, based in Cheshire.
The family-run firm offers services including home removals, storage, office relocations and move management. The company was founded in 1871 as a glass and china dealer, before evolving into a coal-delivery business in winter and home removals across Cheshire in summer, after buying a fleet of horses and carts. It says on its website: “We’ve been providing relocation services for individuals and businesses as far back as 1871 and exist to provide you with an incredible experience, every time.
“Average is not an option for us, and since Joseph Johnson’s first venture in 1871, we have striven to personify our brand values of care, integrity and respect.”
It also describes itself as the “complete moving, project management and installation partner”.
Administrators were appointed for the Knutsford-based Johnsons 1871 last Wednesday (January 28), according to a notice published on the official public record website, The Gazette, on Tuesday.
On its website, Johnsons 1871 says its clients include npower, the NHS, the Co-operative, B&Q, Barclays and BBC Cymru Wales.
Leonard Curtis told the Express the business was sold to Amer Logistics Limited on the same day it was appointed as adminstrators.
It said the deal successfully protected 150 jobs.
Administrator Steve Muncaster, from Leonard Curtis, said: “We are delighted to have completed a sale of this long-established business, so preserving the employment of the entire workforce, and allowing its extensive customer base to continue to work with the business.”
Johnsons 1871 was also contacted for comment.
