Two women died on Sunday at two nearby beaches in Cornwall in unrelated incidents. One woman, believed to be in her 50s, was pulled from the water at Portreath Beach near St Ives.
Paramedics, who rushed to the scene shortly after 12.30, were sadly unable to revive her. They were alerted following a report from the South Western Ambulance Service Trust, and RNLI lifeguards were already at the scene. She was suspected to have suffered a cardiac arrest.
Less than four hours later, the body of another woman was found. She is thought to have got into trouble while swimming at Porthcothan Beach near Padstow.
The woman was discovered face down in the water. Her body was recovered at about 4.21pm.
Neither woman has been formally identified, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of both women at this incredibly difficult time.
“There is no indication that the two incidents are connected.”
Many sunseekers were at the beaches to enjoy the latest spell of hot weather, police said.
