The BBC just covered themselves in shame – King Charles will be furious

OPINION: The monarchy has had a tough few months, and the latest news from the BBC is likely to be a blow for the King, writes royal reporter Jasmine Carey.

In what has already been a massively difficult few months for the monarchy, today will be yet another blow for King Charles. Over the last weeks and months, the monarch has had to deal with what has likely felt like struggle after struggle, almost all of it to do with his brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Not only has he had to deal with Andrew’s appearance in the Epstein files, but he has also had to face his disgraced brother being arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. While Andrew has been released under investigation, the arrest has made headlines for weeks, and his scandals are unlikely to leave the minds of the British public anytime soon, despite his repeated denials of wrongdoing. Andrew has, of course, always denied any wrongdoing.

The King, who is no doubt furious with his brother, has also faced heckling about the matter while trying to continue the duty he was born to do. This in itself must be difficult.

However, while the monarch seems to have the motto of “keep calm and carry on”, today’s latest blow for the monarchy may be tough to accept.

This is because it is March 9, the day of the Commonwealth Day service – an event attended by the Royal Family at Westminster Abbey.

While the service is usually broadcast live by the BBCthis reportedly will not be the case today, with Escape to the Country expected to air in its place.

And I am sure King Charles will be furious.

Why? Because not only is the Commonwealth Day service something he deems highly important, but also because the fact that it is no longer being broadcast is probably a massive kick in the teeth.

After all, the monarchy needs all – and I mean ALL – of the positive media attention it can get right after headlines dominated by Andrew. And if the BBC isn’t going to play ball and help them do this, then who is?

Royal author and historian Tessa Dunlop told the Mirror that the decision by the BBC is a “warning sign” for the royals, suggesting that things to do with the monarchy are starting to change.

This is probably the last thing our King wants to hear, especially after pledging to continue his duty and service last month, while the Firm was roiled by Andrew’s drama.
