Nigel Farage has shut down Rachel Reeves’s suggestion that she saved Scunthorpe steelworks. Reform’s leader hit out at the Chancellor during her Spending Review on Wednesday when she claimed credit for saving British Steel.

Mr Farage shouted “that was us!” after his party led calls for nationalisation. But Ms Reeves hit back by sayig it “wasn’t the action of that metal trader but of this Labour government”.

Continuing her Spending Review, Ms Reeves said Labour would invest in Scunthorpe’s future and steel across the country.

Heathrow has signed a UK steel charter to build the third runway with British steel.

New military hardware, trains and tramlines will also be built with British steel.

British Steel last month started to recruit workers for the first time since the Government stepped in to rescue the business.

The company announced it is hiring more than 180 new employees as it prepares to ramp up production.

A statement said it has secured the raw materials to maintain a two-blast furnace operation at its site in Scunthorpe and will significantly increase iron and steel production in the coming months.

The company is advertising for a variety of professional, skilled, and non-skilled roles in Scunthorpe, Teesside and Skinningrove.
