Tesco issues urgent recall of popular pasta that ‘may cause diarrhoea’

The supermarket giant said it was recalling specific date codes of three Tesco pasta products due to the possible presence of salmonella

Tesco has issued an urgent recall for three pasta salads amid fears the supermarket products could be contaminated with salmonella.

Shoppers who have purchased the affected items are being warned not to consume them and should return them to any Tesco branch for a complete refund.

The retail giant said it was withdrawing specific date codes of three Tesco Pasta Salads following the potential presence of salmonella discovered during routine checks.

The impacted product batches include the Tesco Basil Pesto and Semi Dried Tomato Pasta 225g with a use by date of July 24 (2025), the Tesco Chicken and Chorizo Pasta 285g with use by dates July 24 and July 25, and the Tesco Feta Semi Dried Tomato Pasta 290g with the use by date July 24.

The notice stated: “If you have purchased the affected date code of the above product, please do not eat it. Instead. return it to any Tesco store for a full refund.

“No recept is required. No other Tesco products are affected by this recall.”

Signs triggered by salmonella typically include diarrhoea, fever and stomach cramps, reports the Mirror.  Anyone who develops symptoms should remain at home until they have cleared for at least 48 hours to prevent spreading it to others.

When left untreated, salmonella infections can result in serious dehydration, bloodstream infections, and may even spread to other areas of the body, potentially triggering meningitis, osteomyelitis (bone infection), or reactive arthritis.

Typically, the illness will clear up on its own within a week.

However, vulnerable individuals, especially the elderly, infants, and those with compromised immune systems, are at an increased risk of complications and may need hospital care and antibiotics.

This recall follows Waitrose’s recent withdrawal of one of its own-brand curry ready meals due to potential allergic reactions.

The supermarket has recalled certain batches of its Waitrose Indian Takeaway for two as some packs were mistakenly filled with spring rolls, which contain sesame and soya, allergens not listed on the label.

Consequently, the product poses a potential health risk for anyone allergic to sesame or soya. Allergy symptoms can vary from skin reactions to swelling of the lips or face, or vomiting and diarrhoea.
