CAROLE MALONE: Yes, X is a cesspit and, if Musk’s Grok tool breaks the law, it must be dealt with. But first and foremost this is about silencing us plebs.

Keir Starmer has been talking tough – again. This time he’s telling Elon Musk that if he doesn’t shut down the Grok AI tool on X, which can create deepfake sexual images of women and children, he will. Oh, will he? Just like he and his government promised to protect women and children from these images with the Online Safety Act which came into force in 2024? And guess what – he hasn’t. Of 14,000 image abuse offences, only 4% have resulted in a charge.
Is that Mr Starmer caring about women and children? I’d say not. In fact, I’d say the law is being ignored and women are being harassed and abused more than ever. So, forgive me if I think his promises to deal with the vile X AI Chatbot Grok – which is being used to “undress” images of women and children – mean zilch. And let’s not pretend Starmer’s threats to shut down the whole X platform if Musk doesn’t fall into line is out of concern for abused women.

Starmer, his government and the whole woke Liberal Left hate and despise X, formerly Twitter. They’d like nothing better than for it to be shut down because it’s been a gigantic pain in their collective backsides since Musk bought it. Why? Because much to the world’s delight, Musk has used X and his 229 MILLION followers to harangue and harass Starmer and Co about all the stupid and dangerous decisions they have made.
Musk, the richest and one of the most powerful men in the world, never misses the chance to reduce Starmer to the bumbling idiot he is on issues like multi-culturalism, immigration, grooming gangs and trans ideology. He has also made most of the Cabinet look like the abject fools they are – and they hate it.
Because while they can mess with us, the British people, while they can systematically wreck our lives and the country we love, they haven’t been able to mess with Musk – until now. Now they see a chance to shut down his platform. And THAT’S what all this is really about – not the abuse of women and children.
Because never forget, we have a government that detests and wants to stamp out free speech. It doesn’t want the electorate running riot on a platform where they can take him and his government to task on a whole host of issues they’d rather ignore.
Take the trans debate for one. The battle for women’s rights on this issue has been fought and won on X. Before Musk bought what was then Twitter, just referring to a transwoman as a man was a bannable offence. Now, it isn’t thanks to a brave army (of biological women) – JK Rowling and Sharron Davies to name just two – who have used the platform to take on the trans activists and fight tooth and nail for women’s rights and safe spaces.
There’s absolutely no doubt X has played a game-changing role in stopping this woke government from gaslighting the public about biological reality. Remember Starmer is the man who couldn’t say what a woman was and who actually said some women COULD have a penis. And X (quite rightly) tore him to shreds over it.
I do understand X can be a cesspit where some of the most hideous people alive get to spew out their disgusting views. However, it’s also a stage for decent people who have no voice, but who have something to say about our politicians and how their country is being run. X gives them a place to address, question and Yes berate, those politicians directly.
And of course, they don’t like it. They don’t want to be castigated by “the plebs” on X because the fact is they don’t actually care what we think. They just want to be free to pursue their own woke, out-of-touch agenda. Trouble for them is that as long as X exists, Musk and we Brits won’t let them.
Don’t get me wrong, Musk shouldn’t be above the law, and if the law is being broken Grok must be dealt with. But that’s not all that’s happening here. We have a PM who lies to the British people. But thanks to social media and the media in general, he is regularly held to account. Both explode his lies and show him to be the shifty, useless, cowardly Prime Minister he is.
Hence all the threats to shut X down. But think about this – the only countries to have blocked X are Russia, China, Iran and North Korea. Is that the kind of country we are? The only democratic country that’s ever banned it was Brazil and that was only for three months. Because the truth is governments that shut down online discussion are sinister, authoritarian and hell bent on control.
As vile and vitriolic as X can often be, if Starmer does try to close it down it will be yet another assault of freedom of speech in this country – another subject which Musk never fails to attack Starmer about. And frankly we need him to. This country becomes more authoritarian by the day. We have a government which isn’t interested in our opinions on anything, which is willing to bastardise democracy by delaying elections and that brands its critics as “far-right”.
We have police officers who now barge into people’s homes and arrest them because they said something on X that the Left doesn’t like. Those same police forces lie and feed fabricated evidence to the British public to justify antisemitic actions (I’m talking about West Midlands force banning Maccabi fans here).
And one last thought: if Starmer and his government think X is vile and should be shut down, why are they all still advertising on it? Why are they all using it to push their political wares and their so-called achievements? Why are they still using it to attack opposition politicians – especially the ones they think are going to smash them in the next election?
X has many faults and has been responsible for causing much angst and pain to so many people. But as long as this shoddy Government is in power it needs to exist. Because Starmer and his mob need a spotlight on them at all times. We need to know what they are doing and why, when they’re telling the truth and when they’re not. And X is a vital tool for keeping track of that!
