A St George’s Cross has appeared on a renowned white horse landmark that can be seen for miles – and the police have confirmed they won’t be investigating.
Photographs taken today (September 9) reveal Westbury’s White Horse in Wiltshire transformed into a St George’s Cross.
Officials confirm the red lines forming the cross appear to have been crafted from fabric rather than paint, with police stating they are not pursuing an investigation as ‘no criminal activity has occurred. ‘.
However, a specialist team is anticipated to visit the location ‘at the earliest opportunity’ to evaluate any possible harm.
Velisa Russell, who frequently strolls past the monument, remarked: “Luckily there’s no damage as red material was used. It’s more an act of patriotism, not vandalism. Just a bit of fun.”

The cross appears as part of a broader movement nationwide, where structures, roundabouts and motorways have been painted with the cross and flags erected along major roads and high streets.
Wiltshire Council has previously stated that individuals spray-painting roadways in Wiltshire are engaging in vandalism rather than demonstrating patriotism.
English Heritage commented: “Red fabric has been attached to the Westbury White Horse.

“We’ll be removing it as soon as we can and seeing whether the pegs that were used have caused any damage to this much-loved historic landmark.”
Wiltshire Police confirmed: “We are aware of red material being pinned across the Westbury White Horse to form the St George’s Cross.
“No criminal offences are thought to have been committed and we are not investigating it.”
Westbury Town Council stated: “We’re aware that a cross has recently been placed on the White Horse.
“The landowners, English Heritage, have been informed, and are arranging for a roped access team to attend the site as soon as possible to remove and assess any damage.”
