Sky News halted for ‘breaking news’ alert in embarrassing new blow to Starmer

Sky News interrupts its regular programming with a breaking update on Sir Keir Starmer

Sky News was halted on Monday for a major breaking news alert as Keir Starmer is set to reshuffle his team in Downing Street after mounting backlash and threat from Reform UK’s Nigel Farage.

The channel delivered the breaking news straight out of Westminster, saying: “We’re just hearing confirmation this hour that Darren Jones is to be appointed as the Prime Minister’s Parliamentary Secretary in the Cabinet Office.

The host continued: “This role is based within 10 Downing Street itself and will oversee work across government to ensure the Prime Minister can deliver on his plan for change. Crucially, Darren Jones will also attend Cabinet. It’s worth remembering that just last week, the Prime Minister reshuffled his senior aides. So this appointment is part of a wider shake-up, designed to centralise power in Downing Street and keep delivery firmly on track.”

Nin Pandit, a senior civil servant, was only last week moved into a new role after the Prime Minister asked her to oversee delivery of his priorities from inside Number 10.

Sky News remarked: “It sounds very similar to what we’re now hearing about Darren Jones. Clearly, what Number 10 is trying to demonstrate is that they are finally getting a grip on the delivery of the country’s priorities. The Prime Minister wants to be seen as laser-focused on delivery, and maybe this is an acknowledgement that, up until now, the level of delivery hasn’t been where he wanted it.”

They concluded: “This appointment, alongside last week’s changes, shows a clear strategy from Downing Street — tighten control, sharpen delivery, and put the Prime Minister’s stamp firmly on how government is run.”

In the comments on X, users vented their frustration, demanding a General Election. One remarked: “We want a General Election. NOW.” Another replied: “It’s like they are running a tuck shop!” While a third added: “Another ‘reset’ isn’t this the fourth this year!?”
