Rachel Reeves furious with Keir Starmer as she faces axe: ‘Spitting feathers!’

EXCLUSIVE: The Chancellor is worried Keir Starmer is about to fire her as she was left in the UK as Keir Starmer tours China with business leaders

Rachel Reeves is said to be furious that she has not been taken to China with Prime Minister Keir Starmer for the three day trip.

The Chancellor has been “spitting feathers” and complaining to her aides about missing out on Starmer’s trip to Beijing especially because he’s being accompanied by so many British business people.

Speaking exclusively to the Express a source said: “Reeves is furious she wasn’t taken to China with Starmer. She’s been steadily complaining about it to her aides and those in her inner circle, and little by little it has spread like wildfire around Parliament.”

The insider also revealed that Reeves is not just worried about how this looks for her personal brand but she fears it may be the beginning of the end for her role as Chancellor.

The source continued: “Rachel is spitting feathers because she knows that there are going to be some big trade deal announcements made during this trip to China and it feels very strange to have some of the biggest business leaders in the UK there but not the person who is in charge of bringing growth to the economy.

“She naturally thinks that she’s being cut out of the positive publicity that the China deals will generate and that perhaps Starmer is trying to distance himself from her before finally giving her the axe.”

Sir Keir has taken a delegation of almost 60 representatives of British businesses and cultural institutions as he continues his efforts for closer ties with the government of China.

Starmer is the first British Prime Minister to visit China since Theresa May back in 2018.

Speaking on the flight to Beijing, he insisted that his mission would bring benefits for people in Britain.

He said: “The evidence that there are opportunities is the fact that we’ve got so many CEOs with us on this flight, that we’ve got 60 coming out to explore those opportunities.”

He added that this “reflects back at home in terms of the benefit that it brings back to the United Kingdom”.
