Kemi Badenoch and Robert Jenrick are the final two candidates competing to become the next Conservative Party leader after former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stood down in July.

Members of the wider party will vote on who they want to take the helm between October 15 and 31, before the winner is announced on November 2.

The winner will become the official leader of the opposition and the sixth Tory leader in little more than eight years.

And, according to a recent poll conducted by the Conservative Home website, Ms Badenoch is the favourite to take the role.

According to the Conservative Home poll of over 800 verified party members, Ms Badenoch will win 55 percent of the vote, with Mr Jenrick trailing behind on 31 percent, and 14 percent yet to make up their minds.

However, further polling reveals little support in either candidate in bringing the party back to victory after the summer’s humiliating electoral defeat.

A poll of Conservative councillors conducted by Savanta showed that, while Ms Badenoch is preferred by 31 percent of councillors and Mr Jenrick 23 percent, 28 percent were undecided and 15 percent don’t plan to vote at all.

This is in contrast to the last contest between Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss in which just five percent said they did not intend to vote.
