Pensioners are to be hit by Rachel Reeves latest “money grabbing” plans with up to 500,000 about to lose their winter fuel payments.

Under the Chancellor’s new rules, OAPs with income over £35,000 will not receive the £300 yearly payment.

The state pension is expected to rise by 4.7% next year, which means a large number of OAPs will be pushed above the threshold.

Silver Voices director Dennis Reed said: “Silver Voices only reluctantly accepted the winter fuel payment reversal on the basis that the large majority of pensioners on modest incomes would continue to receive it in the future.

“The illogical decision not to inflation-proof the benefit is a betrayal of older people and reignites the scandal that has caused so much political damage to Labour.

“This pathetic money-grabbing will cause thousands to fear the coming winter.”
