Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of plotting to undo Brexit as the Labour government sets out its policy on Europe.

Critics argue that if the PM gives the green light to joining the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention (PEM), a European customs scheme, for example, Britain’s global trading capabilities would suffer.

Downing Street has insisted that such a move would not cross any “red line”. Rachel Reeves said she would be “happy” to look at the proposals raised by the EU’s trade chief Maros Sefcovic.

In addition, Sir Keir has also been accused of forming an EU “surrender squad” to reverse Brexit, as part of his plan to reset the UK’s relationship with Brussels.

A team of up to 100 civil servants is being assembled to run the UK’s negotiations with the bloc, it has been suggested, with insiders saying its purpose is to row back on Brexit.

Damning findings in an exclusive mega survey for the Daily Express suggest that barely one in 10 people have faith in the Labour leader to maximise freedoms as a result of being outside the EU, with more than half not trusting him “at all” to deliver.

And almost two-thirds do not believe the Prime Minister can combat spiralling immigration.

This week, new figures revealed that it will lead to another five million people living in the UK in the next seven years.

This would increase the country’s population to 72.5 million.

It comes as support for the Government has reached a new low, according to new polling.

YouGov asked the public if they “approve or disapprove” of the Government’s record so far.

A whopping 64% of respondents said they dissaprove – the most since the general election resulted in a huge Labour majority in July last year.

Experts say that the proportion of those that approve of Sir Keir’s administration is 16%, minus 4% from January 18-20.
