They say it relates to a report made to the Met in June 2024 about a sexual assault that took place in Romania against a woman previously known to the officer who was off duty.
It is understood the officer was on holiday when the alleged offence was committed.
PC Kokoszko was interviewed under caution at a police station on Monday, 28 October 2024 and subsequently charged nine months later.
The force said the alleged victim “continues to be supported by specialist officers”.
The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has also been made aware of the charge and if convicted the officer is likely to be subjected to disciplinary proceedings.
