“They remain in police custody. A scene remains in place while officers conduct their enquiries. This is an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community.”
A scene remained in place throughout Monday morning, with a blue forensics tent put up within the cordon and a large number of officers on site, Manchester Evening News reports.
It comes after police were temporarily granted extra stop and search powers in parts of Manchester in the wake of two unrelated incidents on Friday and Saturday.
Announcing the 24-hour measure on Saturday night, Greater Manchester Police said the move came after “two separate assaults where a knife or sharp instrument was allegedly used in the last 24 hours”.
The force said: “On Friday 23 May at around 8pm, we were called to reports of a man aged 24 presenting with stab wounds at A&E following an alleged assault on Moss Lane East, Moss Side.
“He is being treated for serious injuries, not believed to be life threatening. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.”
Then on Saturday evening at around 5pm the force were called to a disturbance on Stockport Road, Longsight.
“Emergency services arrived at the scene to find a man and boy aged 18 and 17 with stab wounds,” the forced said. “Both were taken to hospital where they remain with serious injuries, not believed to be life threatening.
“A short while later, a large sheath was handed over to police by a member of the public on Lauderdale Crescent.
“Three men, all aged 18, have been arrested on suspicion of affray in relation to this incident and have been taken into custody for questioning.”
The section 60 order, gave officers “extended powers to stop and search individuals” and was put in place for 24 hours from 6pm on Saturday in the area of Stockport Road, (at the Asda junction), Upper Brook Street, Princess Road, Platt Lane, and Dickenson Road.
