BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg left viewers raging as they accused her of being “biased” during her interview with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.Laura asked Mahmood about Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham applying to stand as an MP for Gorton and Denton in the next byelection, which will be decided by the Labour Party’s ruling national executive committee later.
Shabana insisted that it was normal procedure for MP selection to be done by NEC officers, but Laura replied: “The problem is that the critics of Keir Starmer, restricting it to an inner core, just makes it look like a stitch-up.
“You’ve already got members of the cabinet saying let him run, you’ve got Labour activists, Labour MPs out there saying let him run, if Starmer and you and his allies stop that happening, you’re going to end up with an absolute car crash aren’t you? People are already raging about this moment.”

As Laura said that it could be a “car crash”, viewers took to social media to hit out at her “biased” comment, although others did agree with what she said.
One posted: “Laura Kuenssberg calls the current Burnham/Starmer issue a “car crash” yet never used such a phrase when the Tories went through three different Prime Ministers in less than two months.”
Another added: “Laura has used the phrase car crash to describe Labour 3 times already. Remember this is the so called neutral journalist who sat across from Liz Truss and took her seriously as PM.”
A third chimed in: “Kuenssberg: “What’s dominating in this country – is there any good way through this situation with Andy Burnham for Keir Starmer because it looks like a car crash”. Ludicrous. This couldn’t be more Westminster Bubble if it tried.”
A fourth added: “Laura K’s absolute delight in calling Burnham ‘s actions a ‘potential car crash ‘
She’ll run with this story for weeks now
A fifth chimed in: “But wait….it IS a car crash. Farage, Jenrick & co are popping open the champagne.”
A sixth raged: “Labour has fallen into open civil war, with Andy Burnham set to fight Keir Starmer’s NEC to become an MP. Labour has lost the country’s trust, with voters tired of infighting, distractions and chaos. Shabana Mahmood on #bbclaurak dodging questions and adding to the uncertainty.”
