Lisa Nandy, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, appeared on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg to discuss a range of topics, including bias within the BBC.
The conversation followed the reports that the BBC had edited a clip of Donald Trump in a Panorama documentary where his speech was spliced to infer something he didn’t say. Lisa explained she had watched the footage, and has discussed a range of issues with the BBC. She explained that there was a series of allegations made regarding systemic bias.
Lisa stated she is confident that it is being treated with the seriousness necessary. Laura questioned whether the concerns raised was shared with Lisa, who explained she had two concerns.
The first one was that editorial decisions on standards and guidelines were “entirely inconsistent” and left to individuals to make decisions.

The second concern was that the BBC are operating with news and fact being blurred with opinion. She said more people in this country are unable to trust what they see on the news. Lisa continued: “I was disappointed recently that Ofcom decided not to proceed with proposals to take action on politicians presenting the news.
“I am looking, as the culture secretary, at what we can do as a government to deal with this. We can’t continue with a situation where we can’t be trusted.”
Laura immediately shut her down and said: “You’re raising a situation that does not happen at the BBC. Politicians to present programmes in other sectors but not at the BBC.”
Viewers rushed to X to share their thoughts as one said: “So the BBC are exposed for their blatant bias against Trump and Nandy’s contrived response is about GB News.”
An additional person wrote: “Hypocrite Nandy blames politicians who broadcast on TV&Radio. Probably having a dig at Nigel Farage who presents on an independent channel. Forgot her Deputy PM David Lammy used to present a show on LBC. Plus other politicians present on LBC, which l believe Lisa Nandy has?”
Another said: “Does Nandy get anything right?” While a third wrote: “Nandy is stuttering already.” Meanwhile others were getting so frustrated with the debate that one person said they were “switching off” the show.
It comes as Laura also confirmed that Sunday’s show would be ending earlier than usual due to the Remembrance Sunday event. She opened up the show to confirm to viewers that instead of airing until 11, it would only be on air until 10.15 to make way for the special event.
