Ed Balls certainly didn’t mince his words as he grilled a Labour minister live on air over the launch of the ‘one-in one-out’ migration return scheme
Good Morning Britain host Ed Balls grilled Labour minister Lisa Nandy over the launch of the ‘one-in one-out’ migrant returns deal with France. During Wednesday’s visit (August 6) to the ITV studios, the 59-year-old broadcaster woke up the nation alongside his co-host Kate Garraway as they discussed the biggest stories hitting the headlines.
It didn’t take long before the discussion turned to the ongoing migrant crisis, with the presenting duo sharing their thoughts on the implementation of the new Labour migration return policy. On Tuesday (August 5), the UK will begin the one-in one-out returns deal which will see the UK sending people crossing the Channel in small boats back to France in exchange for asylum seekers. It also means that anyone arriving in a small boat can be detained immediately.

To get a better understanding on the migration deal, the presenters welcomed Labour minister Lisa Nandy onto to the programme, and it’s fair to say Ed didn’t hold back with his hard-hitting questions.
He asked: “So we’re not going to see a repeat of the Rwanda scheme where the courts blocked it?” to which the politician insisted: “No we’ve finally gripped all of these issues and the Home Secretary has very painstakingly gone through this with her French counterpart to reach the deal that we struck.
“This is part of us rebuilding our relationships with countries like France and all over the world because these are shared challenges. The only people that are profitting from them are the trafficking gangs who are making millions out of human misery and we’re working together determined to tackle it once and for all.”
