Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage have clashed over Reform membership figures after they surpassed the Tories’.
Tory leader urges GB News boss to cut airtime for rival Nigel Farage
Kemi Badenoch has reportedly accused GB News of giving too much of a platform to her critics.
Sources claimed that the broadcaster’s chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos was called in to Westminster before Christmas for a meeting with Mrs Badenoch.
She reportedly said during the meeting that the channel, which boasts Mr Farage as a presenter, should not be “a haven for my critics”.
Both sides played down the suggestion that the encounter between Mrs Badenoch and Mr Frangopoulos was in any way acrimonious.
But allies of the Tory leader confirmed to the Mail on Sunday that she mentioned the prospect of regulatory implications amid the possible blurring of Mr Farage’s roles as both politician and broadcaster.
GB News sources admitted that the amount of airtime given to Mr Farage was highlighted.
The revelations come as Mr Farage warned he will not back down in the row with the Tory leader which erupted when she accused the arch-Brexiteer of “fakery” over claims his party had overtaken the number of Tory members.
Reform said its party, which has five MPs, has now hit 140,000 members paying the £25 fee to join.
This is higher than the last known Tory total of 131,680.
Mrs Badenoch on Thursday accused Reform’s live online ticker of being “fake” and said Mr Farage “doesn’t understand the digital age”.
In response, Mr Farage challenged Ms Badenoch to have the Reform and Tory membership figures checked by a Big Four accounting firm.
