OPINION – CAROLE MALONE: Grand speeches for International Women’s Day won’t change what we know about the PM or his government

Keir Starmer is so transparently, hypocritically vile – it’s almost funny. I say almost… As the world reels in revulsion at his cowardice over Iran, as he faces scorn and derision about the fact he’s reduced our once Great Britain to a laughing stock on the global stage, he clearly spent last week searching for something that would divert attention from his newly acquired ‘yellow belly’ status.
And what he came up with was an International Women’s Day event in Downing Street where he could make grand speeches about how determined he is to protect vulnerable women everywhere and that his mission is to create “a fair, inclusive and safe” society for them here. And so that’s what he did.
“Misogyny is everywhere,” he told the assembled dignitaries. Yes, you fool never more so than in Downing Street and at the heart of your rotten-to-the-core government.

Never forget this is the man who bust a gut trying to stop a grooming gangs inquiry. So determined was he that these raped, tortured vulnerable women would never get justice, that he even ordered his ministers to vote against it. And they did – even the female ones!
And let’s look at some of those women – Bridget Phillipson, Yvette Cooper, Jess Phillips (our women’s safeguarding minister for God’s sake), Stella Creasey, Lucy Powell, Shabana Mahmood. These are all women with big, strong, persuasive voices yet they stayed silent on the suffering of those victims of the Pakistani rape gangs. But more than that – they betrayed them with their vote. And guess who two of the women were who stood up with Starmer at this Women’s Day event – yep two of the loudest gobs of all, Bridget Phillipson and Yvette Cooper.
How the hell did this vile pair have the brass neck to show their hypocritical faces at an event that was about protecting women when they have so cruelly turned their backs on them? Even Rachel Reeves (who abstained from the grooming gangs amendement vote) said: “I’m proud to play my part in making sure no girl or woman sees a ceiling on their ambition.” Try being raped, tortured and drugged for years, lady. See what that does for your ambition!
If these MPs had given a damn about violence against society’s most vulnerable women, they’d have defied Starmer and voted in favour of a grooming gangs inquiry. Instead, they choose to be on the side of the Pakistani scumbags who perpetrated these crimes. And of course, we know why that is – because with this government, the Muslim vote must be protected at all costs. Even when young women’s lives are at stake!
And if Starmer is so concerned about the world’s women why the hell did he run away from the Iran conflict? Sixty-Five women were executed in Iran last year for “crimes” as spurious refusing to take a beating from their husbands, because they were raped (yes, in Iran it’s the woman’s fault she’s raped), or wearing their head covering the wrong way.
In Iran any of those are enough to get you hanged or stoned to death in the streets. But Starmer turned a blind to all that. And not just him. Where were the feminists in his own government and in Britain when all this was happening? And where was Greta, Jane Fonda, Natalie Portman?
Women don’t believe Keir
OK, so maybe I don’t expect those Hollywood show ladies to get involved in issues that aren’t the fashionable cause of the day, but I would expect the Prime Minister of this country and female MPs to at least show an interest. But he (and they) didn’t.
He sat back and did nothing. In fact, it was worse than that. He actually tried to hinder the efforts of the US and Israel – the two countries who had the guts to deal with Iran’s tyrannical regime – by denying them the use of our airbases.
And for all the people in this country who are screaming we shouldn’t get involved, do they really imagine that what happened to women in Iran isn’t happening here – the beatings, the rapes, girls getting murdered by their own families because they refuse to marry the man their family as chosen? Do they not see all that misogyny spreading here with the spread of Islam, a religion that in many parts of the world treats women as no better than dogs.
Look how Sharia Law freely operates here in Britain. If Starmer was serious about protecting women, he’d ban it. But no, there are 85 of these pernicious courts operating here and they reduce women to third-class citizens with zero rights who can be beaten, raped and stripped of their worldly good – not to mention their children. And if Starmer gave a flying fig about women, why hasn’t he implemented some of the 20 recommendations made in the 2022 Child Sex Abuse report?
So, I’ve got news for him about all those fanciful promises he’s made about halving the violence against women and girls over the next decade – women don’t believe him because, having seen him in action this past fortnight, it’s clear he doesn’t have the guts to do what’s required.
Starmer fought tooth and nail against a grooming gang inquiry for one simple reason – because he didn’t want his government or past Labour governments and officials (which were up to their necks in the scandal) exposed for their part in it.
And he staged that International Women’s Day event to detract attention from the fact the world (but especially our allies) are slating him as a lily-livered coward who, in two short weeks of war, has destroyed Britain’s reputation as a military force and reduced us to a cowering minnow of a country.
Don’t be fooled by Starmer – he’s a slimy creeping Jesus who doesn’t give a damn about women – only himself!
