Horror stabbing attack in Würzburg as Afghan national arrested – 3 injured

The suspect reportedly made several stabbing movements in the direction man before attacking two other people.

Three people have been injured after a horror stabbing attack in a busy city centre, with an Afghan national arrested. An attempted murder unfolded at Würzburg Central Station in Germany on Monday morning when the 35-year-old attempted to attack several people with a knife.

He approached a Jehovah’s Witnesses stand and suddenly made several stabbing motions towards a 68-year-old man, and attacked a 55-year-old and a 51-year-old. Several passersby, including a plainclothes police officer, intervened and were able to subdue him.

A patrol from the Federal Police arrived shortly after the initial emergency call and arrested the suspect.

Bavarian Police said three people sustained minor injuries, but did not suffer any cuts or stab wounds and were treated emergency services.

Officers are now going through videos of the station and searching the suspect’s apartment as part of their investigation. They urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact them on 0931/457-1732.

The force said: “The area around the crime scene was cordoned off. The Würzburg Criminal Police began their investigation at the scene.

“In addition to securing evidence, they are also compiling video recordings from the main train station. Furthermore, the 35-year-old’s apartment is being searched.

“The officers are now investigating intensively, particularly regarding the exact sequence of events and the background of the crime.”
