Fans of Good Morning Britain were left outraged at the government as the ITV breakfast show made an announcement about the economy. They shared that inflation is widely expected to hit 4% when the Office for National Statistics announces the latest update this morning – making it the highest rise in the cost of living for 21 months and doubling the target set by the government.
Reporter Sean Fletcher shared that the figure reflects the rate of price increases in the 12 months to September, with food and increasing energy bills being blamed. Chief correspondent Richard Gaisford then took over the report as he expanded on the details. He said that due to companies having to pay more National Insurance, more for their energy, more on fuel costs and more on products, all of the price increases are now being passed on to consumers. Inflation was last at 4% in January before dipping to 2% in May. It hit its lowest in September, when it was at 1.7% before shooting back up to 3.8% in August.

Richard said: “Some experts believe that it actually could go higher than 4% today. Of course, a rise in inflation often hits those on the lowest incomes more.” He continued: “Costs are a big concern.”
Viewers at home were devastated by the news as they turned the blame to the goverment, with some saying that Sir Keir Starmer has “not delivered”.
Taking to X/Twitter, one fan wrote: “Government has not delivered on anything….blame it on brexit, wages up whatever it’s scandalous. Every class has being degraded by one so middle class are now working class and working class are now destitute while the super elite rich become wealthier. Fact!!”
