Adil Ray was brought in for crisis talks by his Good Morning Britain bosses after posting his support for New York’s newly-elected mayor Zohran Mamdani. In the post where he shared his support, he appeared to back Sharia law for the city.
The presenter had posted on X on November 5: “Some say Mamdani may implement Sharia Law. He might. The heart of Sharia law is social justice, welfare, fairness, charity and cohesion. Most Muslim countries operate a hybrid of Sharia and civil law, are slowly reforming and abandoning unethical practices despite the west’s portrayal.”
In a follow up post shared on November 7, Adil explained: “To clarify, I am not actually suggesting Mamdani would implement Sharia law. But many of the issues he campaigned for are also some of the positive values of Sharia that Muslims try to live by. Something many of us would agree on.”

Following his posts, the host was later pulled in by bosses to discuss them, The Sun has reported. It was claimed that Good Morning Britain executives were cross and bosses were “sent into a tailspin” after seeing his comments, so they called him in.
The source said: “It was a nightmare as hours earlier ITV revealed it was in talks to sell its broadcasting arm to Sky in a £1.6billion deal.”
They added: “Obviously, they don’t want anything to dereail that.”
The concern follows the plans after “preliminary discussions” to sell its TV business to Sky, the deal is said to not include ITV Studios, which producers Love Island and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
A statement by ITV to the London Stock Exchange said: “There can be no certainty as to the terms upon which any potential sale may be agreed or whether any transaction will take place. A further announcement will be made in due course if appropriate.”
The move could cause quite a few shake-ups to the ITV channel, as ITV has multiple entertainment channels which could be integrated into Sky’s network. There could also be some job changes, as is usual with any internal shake-ups.
However, there are plenty of positives, with funding likely increasing for some of ITV’s biggest shows and perhaps additional expansions.
