Keir Starmer has been hailed as a “hypocrite” by furious Good Morning Britain viewers after his latest decision concerning Rachel Reeves. The Prime Minister has confirmed that the Chancellor will face no further action over her “inadvertent failure” to obtain a rental licence for her south London home.

Reeves came under fire after referring herself to the independent ethics adviser, admitting she “had not been made aware of the licensing requirement” when she listed her Dulwich home for rent. As she did not obtain a licence from Southwark Council, calls were made for her to be sacked by Keir Starmer.

Good Morning Britain correspondent Lorna Shaddick updated viewers on the developing situation, explaining that Keir Starmer concluded no further action was necessary after it emerged the letting agency had failed to inform Reeves and her husband that a licence was required. He also acknowledged that she apologised for the mistake and sought to apply for a license.

She continued: “But as you say, those emails came to light between her husband and the letting agency, showing the couple were very much aware that a license was needed but it was the letting agency that let them down for failing to apply for the license.”

Ms Reeves informed the Labour leader that emails showed an agreement that the agency would apply for the licence on their behalf, however, later confirmed they did not proceed with the application.

Lorna read part of Keir Starmer‘s statement in which he says he found “no evidence of bad faith”.

The report sparked outrage among viewers, who quickly took to social media to voice their complaints.

One raged: “Hypocrisy at the highest levels…”

Another fumed: “Starmer said ‘rule makers should not be rule breakers’, he should sack Rachel from accounts. She has lied about her previous employment & now lied about knowing she needed a landlord licence.”

Hitting out at Rachel Reeves, a third said: “Responsibility at the end of the day is hers. She knew the rules. She is a liar and a chocolate teapot and how dare she dictate to us in the budget. Don’t believe a word that comes out of her lying mouth. If that was anyone else, they would be in big trouble.”

Someone else claimed “she needs sacking”, while an additional viewer branded the situation “another Labour cover up”.
