Martin Lewis clashes with Badenoch over student loans
Tory leader Kemi Badenoch locked horns with Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid, Ed Balls and Martin Lewis on this morning’s instalment of the ITV news programme. Badenoch appeared on the programme to address Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor‘s arrest and university students’ debt on the show, but it soon descended into chaos as the politician was “ambushed” by Lewis.
As the interview heated up between Badenoch and Balls, Lewis stormed across the studio to weigh in on the debate over university loans, leaving viewers perplexed. The Conservative minister and MoneySavingExpert talked over each other as they tried to make their points, as Badenoch stated: “I’m the first person who is even trying to solve this problem…”

As Lewis spoke over her, she calmly stated: “If you want us to have a debate, I’m very happy for us to have a debate. But I think it is very important that people hear what I am talking about. You are both talking over me. Excuse me, let me explain what my policy is… I want to make sure those young people who are paying and paying, and their debt is not going down, get relief. If you think there is a better offer, let’s look at it.”
During the heated interview, viewers flocked to Twitter to comment, with one writing: “What an embarrassment of a show Good Morning Britain is. Getting Martin Lewis to ambush Kemi Badenoch and then getting their a***s handed to them #gmb.”
Another said: “Well done, Kemi, such graceful handling of that rabble of so-called presenters……#gmb.”
A third added: “Did yourself a disservice there @MartinSLewis, not like you to talk over someone like that. You should probably watch it back and reflect.” A fourth wrote: “Martin Lewis coordinated an ambush during that ‘interview’. You don’t have to be Kemi Badenoch’s biggest fan, but that was uncalled for. #GMB.”
Meanwhile, a fifth said: “@KemiBadenoch making a total fool of herself on @GMB – she hasn’t bothered doing any research and as usual the student interest policy benefits the rich.” Another added: “Party political ambush of #KemiBadenoch by @GMB I’m not a fan of hers but that was outrageous.”
Following the interview, Badenoch admitted: “I’ve never come into an interview from behind – that was very exciting.” She then warned Lewis she would interrupt him in the future.
