GB News presenter asks Cabinet minister why the Chancellor is still in post
A Labour minister came under fire from GB News’s Camilla Tominey over Chancellor Rachel Reeves. Cabinet minister Pat McFadden was asked why she is still in post during a fiery interview on the channel this morning.
The presenter asked: “We now know she lied on her CV, there are claims she lied in the Budget, she wasn’t ever the under-14s chess champion, she actually came 24th out of 36. So why is she still in post when she’s got this quite difficult relationship seemingly with the truth?”
The Work and Pensions Secretary replied: “She’s in post because she’s an excellent Chancellor.”
Tominey cut in: “Is she?”
Mr McFadden went on: “Who put the country’s finances on a stable footing.”
The host then interrupted: “Has she?”

Mc McFadden continued: “She’s getting more investment into the country and she’s helping people with the cost of living. That’s why she’s in post.”
It comes after Ms Reeves unveiled £26 billion of tax hikes in her Budget last month.
But she faced accusations that she had exaggerated the state of the public finances in the run-up to her statement.
Ms Reeves has since insisted she is confident she will be Chancellor at the next election despite accusations that she misled voters.
