GB News star has hit out at the latest scandal to come out of Downing Street. Labour MP, Taiwo Owatemi, has reportedly charged taxpayers £900 in ‘pet rent’ to keep her dog at her second home, with the news channel fuming that she “has no right” over the “ridiculous” charge.

Political Commentator Andy Williams raged as he disagreed with the MP’s actions. He fumed: “She is, like most MPs, charging her rent back through the taxpayer by way of expenses. But obviously part of her rent is this surcharge on having a pet. It’s one of those things where in the scheme of things it doesn’t seem like such a big deal, but it doesn’t look great does it?”

Stephen Dixon replied: “Well, it is £900… That we are paying from someone who is encouraging all Labour MPs to back big cuts.” Andy replied: “Yeah, and I don’t think that that should have been allowed through. It’s clearly one of those loopholes in the system that no one has really spotted before.

“What would be really interesting would be how many other MPs are doing this? Whether deliberately or by accident or whatever. How many MPs’ pets are we paying for?”

Anne Diamond then took a swipe at the government adding: “Yes, when we are taking money off pensioners.” The commentator added: “And all sorts of people in society.”

“There are very good reasons why MPs should be able to put certain things on expenses and we don’t want a system where only wealthy people can be MPs but you don’t have a right to have a pet in your second home. It’s ridiculous.”

The MP for Coventry North West, made the expenses claim in August last year, a document published by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) revealed.

Labour defended Ms Owatemi’s expenses claim, with a party spokesman telling saying: “MPs are required to work in two locations, and this is a requirement for living in this house. It is the same for many other MPs and has been approved by the parliamentary expenses watchdog.”

Ipsa admitted that it had agreed to fund the pet rent surcharge for Ms Owatemi, but “gave incorrect advice as to how it should be described”. They said: “We have apologised directly to the MP and are sorry for any confusion.”
