While the presenters waited for the politician, they discussed the dramatic cuts that were outlined in the Spring Statement with former Liberal Democrat minister Norman Baker and MP Daisy Cooper.
It’s fair to say Stephen was less than impressed with the MP’s tardiness, as he moved onto a further three experts on the show to fill the time while Ms Reeves prepares for the morning show. He mumbled: “We’re still waiting for the chancellor, I mean she’s not looking her best for us.”
A further 10 minutes later, the politician finally joined the pair on the airwaves where she faced their fierce line of questioning on the Spring Statement. During the interview, the chancellor clashed with the presenters on a number of occasions which prompted viewers flocking to social media to comment on the live interview.
The chancellor faced questions over a number of issues, including whether she plans to raise taxes and her decision to accept more freebies. One user fumed: “Reeves still didn’t answer your question regarding companies not taking staff on. She never answers a question. She is c**p.”
Another agreed: “The utterly bizarre basket-case chancellor has just been trying to ‘justify’ her decimating the UK economy! She blames everyone else just not herself!
“I counted her mentioning the OBR and she mentioned and blamed them 10 times. Just who is running this country? The Labour Party or the OBR??????” A third echoed: “Pathetic interview”.
Others shared their thought on the heated debatem with many calling for the politician to be “sacked”. One user penned: “How can anyone look at that woman and say, ‘Yes, I respect her’. It’s never happened before.”
Another agreed: “Yesterday’s Spring Statement by #Reeves confirms we are heading for a big recession. It will smack us between the eyes in approximately 6 to 12 months time…?” A third fumed: “She commands nothing” as a fourth echoed: “Robotic Rachel needs to be sacked”.
