GB News was interrupted for a breaking news announcement and it is bad news for prime minister Keir Starmer.
GB News was interrupted for a breaking news announcement revealing that a record number of small boat migrants are set to cross the English Channel on Tuesday. 700 migrants have reportedly arrived in the UK on Tuesday, just days after 656 migrants made the journey on Saturday. This takes the overall total to nearly 9,000 in 2025, surpassing the 6,265 who crossed by this point last year. This spells bad news for Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who promised his Labour government would “smash the gangs”.
Speaking to Mike Jones, presenter Martin Daubney said: “We’ve become almost immune to this. It feels like another day in clown world but this is another grim tally that’s been beaten.” The political scientist and migration expert issued a scathing verdict on the Prime Minister’s words as he responded: “You become desensitised to it after a while and many more records will be smashed during Labour’s time in office because the gangs are smashing Sir Keir Starmer rather than the other way around.”

He continued: “Keir Starmer has adopted a law and order approach. I’m not against that but the law and order approach is to detain and deport, not stop the boats, not smash the gangs, it’s detain and deport.
“But to do that, you need two things. First of all you need to reopen detention centres and number two, you need to amend or abolish the Human Rights Act. You need a legal architecture there that’s working with the Home Office, not against it.”
In another brutal blow to the Labour leader, Mike added: “But at this moment in time, the Home Office is like a potemkin institution, it has no real power. All of that power lies with the judges and human rights lawyers and Sir Keir Starmer can try as much as he wants to smash the gangs, but it’s not going to happen.”

Speaking to GB News, one senior maritime security source said: “This is an absolute disaster for Labour’s border security policies.
“We’ve been shown a number of successes recently, in terms of the National Crime Agency and other law enforcement agencies making numerous arrests of suspected people smugglers.
“But the fact is, we’re not seeing the gangs smashed, we’re seeing all previous records for migrant crossings being smashed.”
Back in November, the prime minister told the annual assembly of Interpol in Glasgow that it was his “personal mission to smash the people-smuggling gangs” as he announced an extra £75m to police the UK’s borders.
