GB News host forced to step in as ‘smirking’ Labour minister leaves fans raging

Camilla Tominey challenged Labour MP Catherine Atkinson in a fiery clash on GB News.

Camilla Tominey clashed with Labour minister Catherine Atkinson during a heated exchange on GB News. The fiery row occurred during a discussion about record youth unemployment in Atkinson’s constituency. Tominey began: “Do you know what else has gone up with the minimum wage? Youth unemployment. In Derby North, you’ve witnessed a 15 per cent rise in 18-24 year olds claiming the dole. Youth unemployment is up to record numbers after the minimum wage was put up. You’re giving with one hand and taking away with another.”

The politician responded: “We’re taking really long-term decisions to ensure that we are delivering what we have committed to which is to give every young person a guarantee of either training, education or work and that’s hugely important. For far too long we had young people written off and this government will not accept that, which is something I’m really proud of. In Derby we make things and we have incredible skills. Whether it’s trains, planes or submarines, we have got well paid jobs and that’s what we need to see more of.”

Unable to let her continue, Tominey interjected: “Hang on. Catherine Atkinson I’m sorry. I’ve got to stop you there. I appreciate what you’re trying to do, you’re a Labour backbencher. But you cannot possibly say that you’re investing more in young people when youth unemployment in your own constituency is up 15 per cent in the last year.”

The presenter revealed that the figures suggest youth unemployment has increased from 14.8 per cent to 15.3 per cent in the last year.

She continued: “Labour has made youth employment go down. Unemployment is up. How on earth can you say that is investing in young people? There’s more people on the dole now than there was when the Tories were in power.”

Atkinson insisted she wants to see more investment in young people to ensure they have access to well-paid jobs that can help them build a better future.

Stepping in once again, Tominey pointed out: “They don’t have any jobs at the moment.”

Atkinson appeared to be grinning throughout the entire interview, a detail that didn’t go unnoticed by viewers, who quickly took to social media to criticise the Labour Party member.

“Never trust anyone with a perpetual grin on their face,” one said as another fumed: “And she just ignores what she is told, recites soundbites & gaslights with a smile on her face..”

Hitting out at Atkinson, a third commented: “Another Labour MP trying to defend the indefensible. It’s exhausting.”

Another raged: “Catherine Atkinson is almost reconciled to the facts you put to her Camilla and she doesn’t really refute the abstract mess and catastrophic unemployment and benefits chaos that Labour have created. She’s well meaning but hasn’t got a clue. Typical Socialist, useless..”

Echoing this, another viewer added: “Not sure what is more embarrassing……the fact she spouts this nonsense or she expects us to believe it….the quality of MP is dreadful.”
