Alex Armstrong entered a frosty exchange with human rights lawyer Shoaib Khan over the Government’s plans to deport foreign criminals
GB News presenter Alex Armstrong entered a furious row with human rights lawyer Shoaib Khan as the pair clashed over the Government’s plans to deport foreign criminals. The United Kingdom has been handed new powers to restore order to the country’s immigration system, and the Government says that many will be deported “immediately.” The new scheme aims to ease the pressure on prison capacity in Wales and England. During the debate on GB News, Alex Armstrong argued why citizens should allow foreign criminals to stay in prisons in the UK, saying it was “completely ludicrous.”
He added: “I can’t imagine going to a foreign country in the world, committing a crime, and then expecting the people of that country to foot the bill for me to stay in prison.”

Shoabib then interrupted: “I’m sorry – do you not read the newspapers? Have you not seen the British people who go on holiday all over the world and end up in prison?”
Alex shot back: “I condemn them! But they’re deported back to the UK! I don’t care.” Shoabib then argued: “That’s because they’re on holiday?”
Previously, offenders from certain countries could remain in Britain for months or years while their cases were worked through the appeals system.
Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, previously said: “For far too long, foreign criminals have been exploiting our immigration system, remaining in the UK for months or even years while their appeals drag on. That has to end.
“Those who commit crimes in our country cannot be allowed to manipulate the system, which is why we are restoring control and sending a clear message that our laws must be respected and will be enforced.”
Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, also added: “We are leading diplomatic efforts to increase the number of countries where foreign criminals can be swiftly returned, and if they want to appeal, they can do so safely from their home country. Under this scheme, we’re investing in international partnerships that uphold our security and make our streets safer.”
