A tense exchange erupted on The Jeremy Vine Show, where two guests clashed furiously over migrant hotels. Daily Express correspondent Christian Calgie argued that criminal activities associated with migrant hotels illustrate why communities are sick of them. He commented: “They come from backwards cultures, they have no right to be here, and they should be deported as a bare minimum.” Christian also said: “If you care about women’s safety, yes of course, I am as much of a feminist as anyone else, but domestic British men don’t go out…these people are right to be protesting. I’d be sick to death of it too. We didn’t want them here in the first place.”

The debate also saw Nelufar Hedayat disagree with Christian, arguing: “What are you talking about? I don’t really need to say anything. That was just dangerous, frankly. You are landing a narrative that you know is going to get people riled up.”

She added: “You have made these big, bold claims. They’re not connected.” Christian replied: “There is a massive problem in this country with rape convictions. The amount of young men harassing women – a lot of them aren’t British. Why are they here in the first place? They’re not contributing to anything.”

Nelufer said: “Why are you attacking them for being migrants – and not for being rapists?” Christian hit back: “We can decrease the number of assaults and harassments in this country by properly vetting who is coming here.”

Jeremy Vine was forced to interrupt the debate and said, ” Let’s pause.” Several people have reacted to the debate on social media, with some agreeing with Christian.

One person said: “He is absolutely spot on.” A second person also commented: “Christian Calgie is simply giving out the facts. The facts dont care about your feelings. Statistics shows, the majority of sexual assaults in London and other cities have been proven to be committed by men from 3rd world Muslim countries. We have evidence.”

A third also said: “She has no response other than to say the truth is “dangerous”. The Foreign Office literally advises Brits not to visit the countries these men (they are all men) are coming from.”

However, Nelufer did receive support, as one person said: “Well done @nelufar!!”
