GB News guests Kelvin Mackenzie, a former Sun editor, and Jo Phillips, a journalist, got into a fierce row about the migrant crisis during Thursday’s programme. The pair locked horns over whether women and children should be deported if they arrive in the UK illegally.

When Kelvin asked if Jo was against sending migrants to Rwanda, she replied: “I’m against it if it wasn’t thought through properly. I’m not against the idea of a third place processing people, but the Rwanda idea was a gimmick, and it was another expensive gimmick that wasn’t thought through.”

Kelvin interjected: “It can’t be Cannes or Nice – it has to be in Africa.” As the debate heated up, Jo replied: “Would you send girls to Afghanistan? Would you do a deal with the Taliban?”

He replied: “They are taking a risk. Let’s be honest: We don’t want them. I actually don’t want them—you may want them. Everyone goes back, I’m afraid.”

Jo fumed: “So you would send women and girls back to Afghanistan?”

He stated he felt anyone who comes to the UK “under any circumstances” should go back.

“You would be happy for the government to do a deal with the Taliban, which oppresses women and doesn’t allow them access to education?” Jo pondered.

The row continued, with Kelvin retorting: “That’s their system! Why should we have to accommodate somebody else’s thought process?! How many people are living in Afghanistan? They are all being oppressed. We take the whole damn country!”

He raged: “I don’t want 150 million over here! How many women are we talking about? 10 or 15 million?” Jo admitted: “I don’t know,” to which he shouted: “Well, you should know, Jo. You’re in favour of bringing them over here.”

The pair went back and forth with completely different views on migration as Kelvin insisted even children “have to be sent back”.

Viewers took to the comment section to share their thoughts on the debate, with one penning on X: “Harsh? Maybe. But so is arriving illegally and expecting a free pass.” A second said: “Once they go back what then?”
