Lawmakers say newly reviewed, heavily redacted documents indicate that Jeffrey Epstein reportedly abused a nine‑year‑old child and had ties to a high‑ranking official in a foreign government. At a press briefing on Monday, Representatives Thomas Massie, a Republican, and Ro Khanna, a Democrat, stated that the materials appear to implicate six men.

The two have jointly led the push to make the so‑called Epstein Files public since last summer, ultimately securing congressional approval for the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which was later signed by President Trump. Even with the law in place, they argue that transparency is still lacking. The Department of Justice released more than three million documents on January 30, but most of the information was obscured by extensive redactions.

Massie, of Kentucky, told reporters the files included an individual who is “pretty high up in a foreign government’ and urged Donald Trump‘s Justice Department to “correct their mistakes”.

A document shared by Representative Massie contains 18 redactions, including four entries referring to men born before 1970.

Representative Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland who also reviewed the materials at the DOJ, said the records identify several previously unknown underage victims, one reportedly only nine years old.

Mr Raskin said: “You read through these files, and you read about 15-year-old girls, 14-year-old girls, 10-year-old girls. I saw a mention of a 9-year-old girl today. I mean, this is just preposterous and scandalous.”

Meanwhile, Ghislaine Maxwell appeared before the US House Oversight Committee yesterday as part of lawmakers’ ongoing inquiry into Jeffrey Epstein.

Maxwell, now 64 and serving a 20‑year federal sentence for assisting Epstein in the sexual abuse of teenage girls, declined to answer questions about him, invoking her Fifth Amendment right against self‑incrimination.

After the session, her attorney told reporters that Maxwell would be “willing to speak openly and truthfully” if she were offered a reduction in her sentence by Donald Trump.
