A huge rescue operation has been launched in the English Channel after a passenger fell from a luxury yacht. The man is believed to have entered the water from a catamaran off Brighton, near the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm.

A woman on board then raised the alarm, it is understood. Coastguard and lifeboats are searching for the man while the boat it towed to shore. A Coastguard spokesperson said: “At 10.19am this morning, HM Coastguard received reports of a person overboard from a vessel off Newhaven.

“RNLI lifeboats from Shoreham and Newhaven have been sent to search, along with an HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter, a Coastguard fixed wing aircraft and two nearby vessels in the vicinity. The incident is ongoing.”
