GB News was interrupted for an urgent breaking news announcement, prompting Daily Express columnist Carole Malone to rip into Keir Starmer and the Labour Party
Daily Express columnist Carole Malone slammed Keir Starmer after it was announced that 16 and 17-year-olds will have the right to vote in all UK elections. Thursday’s instalment of GB News was abruptly halted by presenters Ben Leo and Bev Turner, who shared the urgent announcement with viewers. “Breaking news,” Bev said, as she interrupted a fiery debate between Carole and Sebastian Salek.
“Labour are giving the right to vote to sixteen and seventeen results. This is part of, some might say shocking, new reforms.” Ben continued: “This is all in a bid to modernise democracy apparently and restore trust in politics among young people.” Carole ripped into the Labour Party after the announcement was broadcast, branding it a “desperate” move from a government who is “stuffed”.
She also believes Labour have been extremely “stupid”, given Nigel Farage‘s growing popularity amongst teenagers following his stint on I’m A Celebrity and since joining TikTok.
Carole continued: “This is a desperate attempt by a government that knows it’s stuffed and to try and stay in power, it’s going to give votes to immature, inexperienced kids.”
The broadcaster admitted she doesn’t trust teenagers to cross the road, let alone elect the next government.
Carole declared: “I think it’s a really bad move. Kids aren’t politically developed at sixteen. You might get the odd one who is, but very few. Labour are doing this because historically, young people have always voted for the Labour Party.”

“Those days are gone,” Bev claimed, revealing most of the teenagers she has spoken to are more inclined to lean to the right.
Sebastian disagreed, claiming Labour has made the decision in the name of democracy. He compared it to Brexit, saying that young people deserve to have a say in their future and those who were unable to vote in that instance are suffering the consequences of it.
Carole snapped back: “You’re saying this is about democracy. This is not, this is gerrymandering. This is actually barefaced, ballot box stuffing. This is what they’re doing. They know that the people that voted them in are never going to vote again so they’re trying to find a whole new tranche of people who will.”
