The UK is set to be blasted by a barrage of snow later this month, weather maps have suggested – just as Spring is due to start. Earlier this week, Britain saw the hottest day of 2026 so far, with the Met Office recording temperatures soaring to 19.2C at Northolt near Heathrow in West London on Thursday as large swathes of the country enjoyed bright blue skies and long awaited sunshine.

However, it looks the wintry conditions are set to make a dramatic u-turn with UK weather maps, indicating that 11 UK cities will soon be covered in snow. Spanning 597 miles from Kirkwall in Scotland to Birmingham, the late winter blizzard will show no mercy. WXCHARTS weather maps have turned purple and white indicating that heavy snow is on its way. The snow is forecast to take a hold of the country at midnight on March 20, with widespread temperatures forecast to plunge to below sub zero.

At 6am the snow will begin to fall. Almost the entirety of Scotland is forecast to be covered by a wall of snow. Perth and Kinross and Stirling are on course to see 5mm of snow fall an hour, according to the weather maps.

Whilst Angus and Aberdeenshire are on track to be buried under 5cm of snow.

It won’t be much better in the North West and North East of England, which could also see snow depths near 5cm.

The Scottish Highlands could see snow depths hit a whopping 15cm, the maps suggest, whilst Argyll and Bute could see 16cm of snow.

Perth and Kinross could be covered in 8cm of snow whilst Stirling may see 9cm of snowfall.

In the north of England, snow depths are forecast to peak at 5cm whilst in the Midlands, the snow could be heavier in places, with up to 6cm of snow likely.

Key cities such as Blackpool and Manchester may see snow depths hit 3cm. Birmingham is also set to see a dusting of snow.
