GB News halted for a breaking update after Nigel Farage accused the British Government of “blocking” his intention to send aid to Chagos islanders. Host Nana Akua noted that it was “absurd” as she welcomed Reform UK MP Sarah Pochin onto the show who said the situation was a disgrace. Pochin told Akua: “We can see once again that Starmer is weak, he is clearly not sure of what his own policy is on this, I am sure that once again we will see a U-turn on this.”

Pochin fumed that Starmer “doesn’t know what he’s doing” and stated, in a damning dig, that the British people want to “see a Prime Minister that even if they don’t agree with what he’s doing, at least has the courage of his convictions”. She stated that the situation was a “right mess” and that the “government was in a mess”.

Pochin also told the host that it was an “embarrassment for the British people”. Akua then joined in too and said that he would likely say there was a “ruling to give away the island”, before stating the situation was “absolutely absurd”, adding: “Nobody in their right mind would do a deal like that but for some reason our Prime Minister thought it was a good idea. I know that the British public probably aren’t happy that they’re paying for that.”

Nana was referencing the news that a treaty was signed last year to cede ownership of the islanders to Mauritius last year, which will cost the UK £35billion over a century.

It came as the Reform UK leader flew to the Maldives with supplies to help four Chagossians who are trying to establish a permanent base on a deserted island in the achipelago.

Farage worked to send a boat carrying food and medicines to the island where the men were trying to establish a colony. However, his plans were changed and the boat will no longer have Farage himself on board, with UK authorities insisting that only trained crew would be on board.

A frustrated Farage told The Telegraph: “The British Government has made every effort to prevent me heading towards the Chagos Islands. They have asked the Maldives government to stop me from leaving here and setting foot on the boat. This was information conveyed to me by a senior figure in the Maldives government.

“They have asked the Maldives government to stop me from leaving here and setting foot on the boat. This was information conveyed to me by a senior figure in the Maldives government. This trip is a humanitarian mission and I don’t want my presence to jeopardise that.”
