GB News was interrupted for a breaking update on Keir Starmer‘s trip to China. The Prime Minister arrived in China on Wednesday (January 28) for what was deemed a hugely controversial but seismic three-day visit to the world’s second largest economy. Sir Keir was given a guard of honour as he arrived in Beijing and met Chinese President Xi Jinping – regarded as the most powerful leader on the planet – on Thursday (January 29).

Sharing further detail on the Labour leader’s trip, GB News presenter Ben Leo announced he had addressed business leaders while in Beijing. He told business representatives from the UK and China on Friday morning that both sides had “warmly engaged” and “made some “real progress”.

But it was Matthew Torbitt who delivered a scathing verdict on the Prime Minister, claiming it’s “how long has he got left?”

His remarks came after Ben questioned what kind of response Donald Trump will receive in comparison to Starmer when he travels to China for a tour in April.

He asked: “President Trump going there on a ticket of strength. He’s got the power. He’s got the cards. Do you think Starmer has gone there a little bit weak?”

Matthew replied: “He’s going in a position of strength although he’s a lame duck president so Xi will see him in a different light from his first term. He’s entering dwindling numbers when it comes to his approval rating and it’s about weighing up what the rest of the operation is about.

“Starmer, it’s how long has he got left? So that’s definitely a position of weakness but the US is always going to be more powerful than the UK, regardless of who is in charge. That’s just the way of the world.”

It comes after Trump launched a blistering attack on Starmer over his visit to China to reset relations with Beijing. He criticised Britain’s push for closer ties with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), saying it was “very dangerous for them to do that”.

He continued: “And it’s even more dangerous, I think, for Canada to get into business with China”, adding that Canada was doing “poorly” and that “you can’t look at China as the answer”.

Last week, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Sunday his country has no intention of pursuing a free trade deal with China.
