A significant winter storm could potentially deliver up to 82 inches of snow in one part of the UK, according to advanced weather modelling maps.
The ECMWF weather model indicates a substantial blizzard will sweep across the UK on February 9, initially depositing snow across South Wales, southern England, the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales, the Pennines and areas of Scotland.
Throughout the day, snow is forecast to spread and blanket most of the nation. The maps indicate that by 6am, heavy snowfall will affect the majority of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Snowfall of up to 82cm is forecast in the Scottish Highlands, maps show.
Residents in London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff and Belfast can all anticipate wintry conditions.
Snow is predicted to continue its northward trajectory, reaching northern England and Scotland around midday. Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee will all experience snowfall, according to the maps, reports the Mirror.

Snow depth charts reveal the remarkable scale of this wintry weather event, with up to 175cm (69 inches) anticipated over Scottish hills. South Wales could receive 20cm (eight inches), whilst 8cm (approximately three inches) is possible across northern England, with comparable accumulations forecast for southern regions.
In Northern Ireland, up to 4cm (1.5 inches) could settle. The maps suggest approximately 90 per cent of the country will be blanketed by snow by midday on February 9.

The Met Office has hinted at the possibility of snowfall in February, cautioning about potential “wintry hazards” on the horizon. The forecast for 9 to 23 February indicates: “With the jet stream likely further south than normal, the wettest conditions are more likely in central and southern areas.
“North and northwestern parts of the UK are most likely to be drier than normal. Whilst mild incursions of wet and windy weather are favoured at times in the south and west, colder conditions in the north and northeast will bring an increased risk of wintry hazards, especially where any precipitation from the southwest interacts with the cold air.”
Moreover, the Met Office suggests that we might witness snowfall even before this period. The forecast for 30 January to 8 February states: “Rain may be heavy and persistent, especially in the south and west.
“Whilst mild conditions are expected to encroach into the south and southwest at times, cold air is likely to be positioned to the northeast, bringing wintry showers at times. Where fronts from the southwest do reach the cold air towards the northeast, there is the risk of some snow, most likely across hills, but perhaps extending to lower areas at times.”
