‘Do not approach’ warning and urgent manhunt launched after thug escapes UK prison

Police have launched an urgent manhunt after a prisoner escaped from an open prison in Derbyshire, with the public warned not to approach him. Ethan Black climbed a fence and escaped from HMP Sudbury at around 8.15pm on Wednesday, December 17.

Black, 36, was jailed in 2006 and handed an indeterminate sentence for a section 18 GBH at Warrington Crown Court. The prisoner is described as being around 5ft 8ins tall, slim, with brown hair and blue eyes, and has “EFC” tattooed on his right arm. HM Prison Sudbury is a Category D men’s prison, located in the village of Sudbury.

Derbyshire Constabulary says Black has links to Widnes in Cheshire, Dudley, Liverpool, Grimsby, and Hastings.

Members of the public are being urged by the force not to approach him and instead to contact the police, quoting reference: 1195-171225.
