During today’s GB News with Nana Akua and Tom Harwood, the pair halted the programme to share a breaking migrant crisis update live on air. The show was cut to presenter Mark White, who claimed more than 500 illegal migrants had crossed the Channel in just 12 hours as they exploited a short break in the weather.
Akua began: “Border Force vessels and lifeboats have been responding to a fresh surge in Channel migrants today.” Her co-star Harwood added: “Yes, GB News can exclusively reveal that at least 500 have made the illegal crossing, taking advantage of a tiny weather window.”
Addressing the situation live from Dover, White said: “Joining us here at Dover Harbour just at the time another Border Force Vessel, the Typhoon, has just come into harbour. It’s just hanging about; you can probably just see it behind a crane. That’s the last of the Border Force vessels today that have picked up migrants in the Channel.

“Quite honestly, that very short weather window of just a short 12 hours has closed in again and is really starting to blow. We are feeling it here on the clifftops.”
White added: “We can tell you on GB News today that the count, according to our producer Chris, who has been counting the migrants off the various boats today, is at 423. That does not include this last boat, which is going to take us to nearly 500 for today.
“Within that 12-hour weather window, we also had a migrant boat which came across last night with 74 on board. So we are well over 500 – and pushing 600, actually, in that 12-hour window.
“It shows that whatever some politicians have told us, the Government’s policy to defeat the criminal gangs to make a difference – it’s obvious that it’s the weather… Now the weather is closing in again, they have stopped.”
It’s another blow for Keir Starmer and his ‘smash the gangs’ policy as the number of small boat migrants has passed 40,000 this year.
GB News viewers flocked to social media to comment on the update, with one person sharing: “Stop the boats they said…” Another penned: “This government should put our soldiers on the beaches of France, to protect our borders & stop the boats.”
