GB News was halted for a major migrant breaking news announcement in the biggest blow to Keir Starmer and Shabana Mahmood. Hundreds of small boat migrants are en route to the UK this morning, after a month of bad weather prevented any illegal crossings. The news of a fresh surge in Channel migrants comes as some Labour politicians and supporters hailed the lack of any arrivals for weeks as an indication the Government’s “smash the gangs” policy was beginning work.
Stephen Dixon and co-host Penny Smith halted their breakfast show as they issued an urgent announcement. Speaking to GB News Home and Security editor Mark White revealed the UK “could be hitting the 40,000 small boat crossings today”. He suggested that the recent bad weather was the reason behind a sharp decline in migrant crossings, however, this is set to change.
Before this morning’s boat launches, Border Force recorded 28 days in row since the last small boat migrants managed to successfully cross the Channel, the longest spell without migrant activity since 2018.
Tristan Osborne, the Labour MP for Chatham in Kent, posted on the X platform: “A long way to go for sure… But finally we are seeing the heavy work paying off.
“Under @UKLabour the longest stretch without boat crossings since the @Conservatives surge started.”

Mark explained: “We’ve got a day today of weather conditions that allow the boats to cross. And what has happened, of course, is the people smugglers have launched hundreds of small boat migrants in the water currently trying to head to the UK.”
In exclusive footage shared on the programme, crowds of migrants could be seen travelling across the English Channel.
“This boat is out in the middle of the Channel,” he went on. “These are other images actually showing a river tributary near Dunkirk we believe under the cover of darkness, a small boat being filled up to the gunnells with dozens of migrants – to make the crossing to the UK.”
Mark continued: “At this hour, we’re told by our producer in Kent that one small boat – packed with 60 or 70 migrants – one has made UK waters and has been picked up by Border Force as is routine and is being taken to a Kent port.

“Another boat is on the line now and is just about reach UK waters. About five other small boats are in the waters heading towards the UK.
“If all of those boats cross we’re looking at 400 [migrants] today.”
Mark reiterated that the Labour Government can not claim success over a decline in migrant crossings in recent weeks, as he argued, “it’s the weather plain and simple”.
