A woman was reportedly raped in a terrifying nighttime attack on a residential street in Worcester. The alleged assault took place on Windermere Drive on Friday evening at about 21:30 GMT.

A 23-year-old man, currently in police custody, has been arrested on suspicion of rape, West Mercia Police have said. The woman, in her 30s, is being supported by specially trained officers.

Inspector Natalie Arrowsmith from Worcester’s Crime and Vulnerability team said: “We are pleased to have quickly identified an individual and bring him into custody for further enquiries.

“The victim will continue to be supported by specially trained officers and will receive the necessary care.

“I would like to stress that we do not believe there to be a wider risk to the public.
