The budget supermarket has issued an urgent ‘do not eat’ alert for one of its own private-label ice creams as it rushes to remove it from store shelves
Aldi has issued an urgent “do not eat” warning for one of its own-brand ice creams, as the discount supermarket chain scrambles to remove it from store shelves.
The allergy alert reads: “Aldi is recalling Gianni’s Cheeky Monkey Ice Cream because it contains undeclared wheat (gluten) which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat (gluten).”
The affected product – sold for £2.35 – has a best-before date of August 14, 2027.
Aldi is advising customers who have purchased the ice cream and suffer from an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten not to consume it, but to return it to their nearest Aldi branch for a full refund.
The budget supermarket said the alert affects shops in England, Scotland and Wales, and expressed regret that the product failed to meet its “normal high standards”, according to the Mirror.

The alert is issued through the Food Standards Agency (FSA), which is the UK government body responsible for protecting public health in relation to food.
The FSA releases allergy alerts when a product poses a risk due to missing or incorrect allergen labelling or any other food allergy hazard.
Recently, shoppers received a critical warning as a popular ready meal sold in Irish supermarkets was recalled due to potential health hazards for certain consumers.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) revealed on Friday that a batch of Fit Foods Beef and Mash with Pepper Sauce has been withdrawn because it contains several undeclared ingredients not mentioned on the packaging.
The food safety authority disclosed that specific batches of the well-known ready meal, stocked in Tesco and Dunnes Stores, include sesame, soya and celery which are not listed on the packaging.
The FSAI cautioned that this could render the batch dangerous for customers who have allergies or intolerances to sesame, soya and/or celery, and consequently, these individuals have been urged not to consume the affected batch.
A withdrawal has been implemented for 400g packs of Fit Foods Beef and Mash with Pepper Sauce with the batch code 2528101 and a use by date of 20/10/2025.
In a separate food recall incident the FSAI issued an urgent “do not eat” alert for a popular range of chicken nuggets, goujons and fillets available in supermarkets nationwide.
The particular batches of chicken products being recalled included Pekish chicken goujons (all use by dates up to and including 14/10/2025); Pekish chicken nuggets (all use by dates up to and including 16/10/2025) and Pekish breaded chicken fillets (all use by dates up to and including 18/10/2025). The FSAI initiated the recall due to incorrect cooking instructions on the labels.
Retailers have been instructed to remove the affected batches from sale and display recall notices at the point-of-sale.
