GB News presenter Nana Akua certainly didn’t mince her words as she shut down a heated migrant debate live on air
GB News presenter Nana Akua was forced to interrupt her show after guests Reform UK Councillor Laila Cunningham and Labour MP Barry Gardiner clashed over the effect of illegal immigration on communities. On Monday night (October 6), the 54-year-old broadcaster welcomed a panel of guests onto her evening show, where they discussed President Trump’s call for the UK to draft in the military to end the small boats crisis.
Last month, the US president warned that illegal migration can “destroy” countries, as he told the Prime Minister to “call out the military”. His comment comes as Starmer has struggled to bring illegal migration under control, with the number of crossings reaching a record high.

Since it began in July, the migrant scheme has successfully returned six people to France. However, more than 32,0000 people have arrived in the UK after making the dangerous journey across the English Channel so far this year.
Agreeing with Mr Trump, Ms Cunningham sparked the debate when she revealed that illegal migration is down by 97 per cent in the US following Donald Trump‘s return to office, which she argued is because the Republican leader “did whatever it takes” to bring these figures down.
She fumed: “I don’t know why we can’t stop these dinghys. Basically, they’re criminals in flip-flops pushing these into the sea; they’re not James Bond villains. But somehow, they keep avoiding our border control, so yes, we do need the military because what the military has is they have drones, they have military capability, they can escort them back to France.
“A real bilateral deal would have been a deal between Britain and England, and we say, ‘You take back your migrants, ‘ not a one-in where France gets to veto who we send back, and we get none. That’s such a weak, weak agreement, it’s almost an embarrassment.”

Labour’s Bary Gardiner then reminded viewers that the one-in, one-out scheme was meant to be “nothing more than a pilot scheme” to which Nana interrupted: “That was the same as Rwanda and they laughed that out. They said, ‘Oh, Rwanda hasn’t got the capacity to take everybody, you’ll only get a couple of hundred there, it’ll be full’.”
Mr Gardiner attempted to counter her comment, to which she demanded: “Let me finish” before she added: “The argument with Rwanda there was a similar concept to this one-in, one-out where you’d actually expand it gradually. With this one-in, one-out, 800 came in, we’ve had three go.”
Further supporting Ms Cunningham’s point, author Adam Brooks demanded that the UK call a “national emergency” to put an end to the small boat crisis. He fumed: “Many MPs like Barry do not realise the damage that illegal immigration is doing to our communities.
“They do not care. Illegal immigration does not affect people like Barry or Keir Starmer in their town.” The Labour MP snapped back: “How dare you! I have more asylum seekers in my constituency than you have.”

Tensions rose when Ms Cunningham interjected with: “Then why don’t you fight for your constituency instead of fighting for your party?” which sparked a round of applause from the live audience.
She added: “Why don’t you ask them what they think and stop playing party politics and take care of your constituents. They voted for you to protect them, not to pander to Starmer.” It didn’t take long before viewers flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their support for the Reform UK politician online.
One user simply penned: “Barry, shut up, she owned you,” as another agreed: “Laila is absolutely what we want to hear speaking facts [applause emojis]”. A third chimed in with: “Go Laila, doing great. Barry is not awake at all. Adam is also putting Barry on the spot, but he is trying to change the whole thing. Great panel tonight, Nana, you’re doing great girl [applause emoji].”
