Prime Minister Keir Starmer sparked fury just minutes into his appearance on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg
It took no more than a few minutes for Keir Starmer to spark backlash after he failed to answer a straightforward question posed by Laura Kuenssberg. The prime minister appeared on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg on the first day of Labour’s party conference in Liverpool. Sitting down with the presenter, Starmer was pressed on a range of issues, including his plans to end asylum in hotels and Labour’s declining popularity in the polls.
Kuenssberg began with an important question, asking: “How much trouble are you in?” Dodging the specific question, Starmer responded: “Well we won last year in July a mandate to change the country.” Interjecting, the BBC host repeated: “How much trouble are you in right now?” Avoiding the question once again, the prime minister continued by reiterating his party’s broader mandate and long-term vision.

He explained: “I always said that would take time. We will be judged at the next election, quite rightly, on whether we have improved living standards, whether people feel better off, whether public services are better, particularly the NHS, and whether people feel safe and secure in their own community.”
Pushing further, Kuenssberg declared: “But I’m asking you about the situation right now because there are a lot of people in your party coming here to Liverpool who really worry about what’s going on. Do you accept that you are in political trouble?”
Starmer avoided directly addressing Labour’s current crisis, saying: “Laura, in politics, there are always going to be comments about leaders and leadership, particularly at times like conferences.”
Despite the mention of Labour’s low position in the polls, the politician continued to double down. “I always focus on what it is we are trying to achieve and what we are delivering,” he said.

Starmer’s reluctance to answer the question sparked backlash, with frustrated viewers taking to social media to voice their complaints.
One fumed: “Starmer arrogantly refusing even to answer the question ‘how much political trouble are you in?’ speaks to what rubbish advice he gets.”
“So bloody evasive. Doesn’t he realise the viewers see it?” raged a second as another added: “#bbclaurak not a hope of getting an answer out of this liar.”
A fourth demanded: “Answer the f*****g question you snake #bbclaurak,” as another furious viewer weighed in: “WTF are you actually talking about @Keir_Starmer?? Can’t answers single b*****d question!! #BBCLauraK.”
