Met Office issues urgent weather warning for 6 areas – full list

Persistent heavy showers are likely to continue to feed in across the region affected by the bad weather, the Met Office says.

The Met Office has issued an urgent yellow weather warning for rain. The warning came into force at 7.56am and applies until 4pm on Thursday. It covers several parts of Wales.

In its warning, the Met Office says frequent heavy showers are likely to continue until early afternoon, before gradually easing by mid-to-late afternoon. Flooding of “a few” homes and businesses is possible, according to the forecaster.

Spray and flooding on roads are set to add to journey times. Some interruption to power supplies and other services is possible too.

Wet and windy conditions are sweeping into the UK over the final days of meteorological summer. Showers and longer spells of rain are forecast by the Met Office for much of the country on Thursday and Friday.

Parts of Wales, North West England and Scotland will see the worst of the unsettled weather, according to forecasters.

A spell of more persistent rain is forecast for the weekend, with up to 20mm likely across many regions. There could also be strong winds, particularly along coasts, with gusts in excess of 50mph.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Willington said in a statement issued on Wednesday: “A westerly regime is now in charge of the UK’s weather and will help fuel periods of wet and windy weather over the next few days, with showers and some longer spells of rain likely for much of the UK on Thursday and Friday.

“While many areas may welcome some rain after fairly prolonged dry weather, there’s a potential that over the next few days some parts of Wales, northwest England and western Scotland could see some impacts at times, which we’ll be keeping an eye on.”
